چکیده

Abstract Intraspecific morphological variation may reflect phenotypic plasticity or adaptive divergence. While shape divergence occur more likely among isolated populations with reduced gene flow, responses to heterogeneous environments, even in spatially connected populations. We evaluated both processes while examining variations seven wild of snakehead fish ( Parachanna obscura ) along climate and habitat gradients Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. Morphological were studied by multivariate canonical variate analysis (CVA) as based on geometric morphometrics 15 body landmarks. Correlations between characteristics geographic distances calculated. found significant the The concentrated landmarks related swimming feeding, suggesting a contribution environmental differentiation. However, we did not detect effects variables shape. trend geographical was likewise significant. Therefore, mechanistic understanding factors causing P. Africa could yet be achieved.

Habitat effects on morphological variation of Garra rufa (Heckel, 1843) populations in Iran

Understanding the processes involved in evolution of organisms is a principal topic that has received much attention from the research community. A common way to achieve this is to study the ecological conditions and morphological relationships of taxa. Fish are widely regarded as notable animal models in studies of environmental influence on morphological features given their high environmenta...

The Parasitic helminth fauna of Parachanna obscura from Lekki Lagoon, Lagos, Nigeria

Parachanna obscura, the African snakehead fish, were randomly selected and subjected to parasitologic investigations. A total of three hundred and forty specimens were monthly obtained over a period of one year. Helminth infections was observed to have a prevalence of 5.9% which accounts for twenty of the specimens to be infected with gastrointestinal helminth parasites. Parachanna obscura harb...

Alarming decline of West African chimpanzees in Côte d'Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire is thought to be one of the final strongholds of the endangered West African chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes verus). In a recent assessment of their conservation status, Côte d’Ivoire was estimated to support between 8,000 and 12,000 individuals, accounting for almost half of the remaining world population [1]; however, this estimate was based primarily on a nationwide chimpanzee surv...

Relationships between morphometric characteristics of brackishwater prawn, Macrobrachium macrobrachion (Herklots, 1851), of Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa)

The present study describes the length-weight relationship (LWR), length-length relationship (LLR) and condition factor of the wild population of the shrimp Macrobrachium macrobrachion from the rivers of Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa). Samples were randomly collected from small-scale shrimp fisheries using bamboo traps. Of the thirteen analyzed morphometrics characters, only the second pleura widt...
